Journeyman Substation Electrician

The following are essential responsibilities of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.
1. Responsible for all assignments, directives, schedules and programs as may be assigned by the substation supervisor or substation crew chief.
2. Perform all phases of substation construction including but not limited to reading and understanding of schematic diagrams and construction drawings, construction of foundations, erecting structures, installation of busses, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit switchers, AC and DC systems, conduit and cable raceways, grounding systems, pulling and terminating of cable, installation of control metering and relay panels, etc.
3. Perform all phases of substation maintenance work which include adjustment of switches, checking electrical connections, checking grounds, sampling and testing of oil, filtering of oil, service and inspect equipment, update substation logs and equipment records, maintenance of substation yard, fence, gates, signs, communication and security systems, trouble shooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, pneudraulic and stored systems, reading and understanding of schematic diagrams, etc.
4. Gather information for recording of all electrical equipment serviced, repaired, tested, painted, TTR tested, meggar tested, dielectric tested, change of dielectric flui, loss evaluated, etc.
5. Perform monthly inspections and gather all necessary data for generation of reports and updating records. Make repairs and corrections on any abnormal findings.
6. Perform switching on equipment at all voltages as directed by the system operator or supervisors in accordance with established FKEC practices.
7. Responsible for the performance of assigned work in accordance with FKEC's standards and procedures.
8. Ensure safety rules and requirements are followed in accordance with FKEC safety manual and acceptable utility standards.
9. Comply with all state and local traffic laws. Have and maintain Commerical Drivers License.
10. Knowledgeable of and perform in accordance with all state and federal regulations concerning the handling, batching, testing, storage, clean up and disposal of any PCB or PCB contaminated dielectric fluids used or stored by FKEC.
11. Must be familiar with and have the ability to use wiring diagrams and schematics as well as the national electrical safety code, national electric code, REA codes, etc.
Position requires medium lifting, awkward work positions and exposure to many adverse elements of weather conditions.
Physical demands: the ability to climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, perform repetitive motions of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must be able to exert a force of 100 lbs occasionally.
Working environment: air conditioned offices with access to phone and radio phone. Substaion and generating plant environment: subject to extreme heat, excessive noise levels and vibration, exposure to mineral oil, lubricants, paint, cleaning agents, dust, compressed gases (nitrogen, oxygen, acetylene, dry air, etc.).
Education: High school graduate or equivalent, and experience as a Substation Electrician.
Training and Experience: Completion of FKEC recognized substation training course and have a minimum of two years experience as a Substation Electrician I or equivalent traninig or background experience. Must be competent in the use of schematics, drawings and wiring diagrams. Must posses a valid Class A CDL with an endorsement for operating vehicles with air brakes. If Class A CDL is not issued by the state of Florida, must be able to transfer to the State of Florida.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
